Itinerary

Day 1: Arrive in Kathmandu

Meet and assist by a Parikrama Treks representative. Transfer to the hotel.

Day 2: Kathmandu Sightseeing

Today, explore some cultural heritage sites: Pashupatinath, Swyambhunath, and Bouddhanath Stupa. In the evening, a short briefing about the Lumba Sumba Pass Trek.

Day 03: Kathmandu to Phoomling via a flight to Taplejung

The trek starts from Fungling (1777 m) – the headquarters of Taplejung district. During this trek, we pass through beautiful cardamom fields and Alnus trees for about two and a half hours.

Day 04: Trek to Mithlung (909 m / 5 hrs)

The trek follows the banks of the Tamor River, offering a pleasant walk until Furumbu, a 40-minute walk from Mitlung. After lunch, the trek continues along the Tamor River until reaching the tiny Tawa Village, a popular stopover for tourists and locals alike.

Day 05: Trek to Chhirwa (1246 m / 6 hrs)

The trek runs alongside the mighty Tamor River, passing through Ulnus trees and encountering two stones of religious significance. The trail passes through Ulnus trees and reaches a big landslide area, taking around half an hour to cross.

Day 06: Trek to Lele (1687 m / 5 hrs)

After breakfast, the trek follows the bank of the Tamor River through a dense forest, offering panoramic views of snow-covered mountains, including the Small Kasturi Peak and Tamor River.

Day 07: Trek to Selep Kharka (2526 m / 6 hrs)

The trek is pleasant as it passes through Ulnus and Rhododendron forests. Walk through maple and Ulnus forest, cross a big landslide on the way, and finally, reach Selep Kharka.

Day 08: Trek to Walungchung Gola (3209 m / 7 hrs)

The trek runs along the banks of the Tamor River, leading to a place called Jongim (2641). Jongim is a flat land surrounded by snow-capped hills, featuring a sub-health post, a primary school, and a border police station at Olangchung Gola.

Day 09: Trek to Mattiello Langmale (3893 m / 6 hrs)

The next three days of trekking will pass through complete wilderness. After reaching Jadak (3636m) and having lunch, walk for around three hours to reach the camping site at Upper Langmale (3893m).

Day 10: Trek to Pass Camp (4747 m / 5 hrs)

The trek might be interesting, offering glimpses of snow leopards. After lunch, another three hours of walking will lead to the camping site at Pass Camp (4747m).

Day 11: Trek to Chaurikharka (4594 m / 6 hrs)

This is the most difficult yet memorable day of the trek. Climb the Lumba Sumba Peak and descend to Chaurikharka (4594m) for the night’s stay.

Day 12: Trek to Thudam (3500 m / 5 hrs)

The trek is downhill from Chaurikharka as we return to civilization, completing the final day of hard passes over three continuous days. Thudam (3500m) is a small village with around 30 houses of Sherpa people.

Day 13: Trek to Kharka (2878 m / 6 hrs)

On this day, run along the banks of Chujung Khola. After a six-hour walk from Thudam, reach Kharka (2877m) for the night’s halt.

Day 14: Trek to Chyamthang (2229 m)

After a three-hour walk from Kharka, reach a place called Chaurikharka for lunch. The trek is downhill for about three hours until reaching Arun River. Later, reach the stop point of the day.

Day 15: Trek to Hatiya (1595 m / 5 hrs)

The trail on this day passes through the rhododendron forest. From Gimber, the walk is easy. After about three hours of trekking, reach Hatiya (1595) for the night’s stay. Hatiya is a small village of Bhote people and serves as the entry point to Makalu National Park.

Day 16: Trek to Gola (1128 m / 5 hrs)

Today’s trail leads with a walk along the banks of the Arun River. After about two and a half hours of walking after lunch, reach the camping site at Gola.

Day 17: Trek to Gadhi (1800 m / 6 hrs)

The trek passes through paddy fields, making a short descent. Reach Gadhi (1,800m) – the destination for the day – after about a three-hour walk from Pathibhara.

Day 18: Drive or flight back to Kathmandu

This is the last day Lumba Sumba Pass trek. A walk of about two and a half hours from Gadhi takes you to Num. A 4-5 hour drive on a dirt road takes you to Khandbari. From Khandbari, buses are available to Dharan or Biratnagar. Alternatively, take a vehicle to Tumlingtar airstrip and a flight to Kathmandu.

Day 19: Free day in Kathmandu

In case of a missed flight, catch a flight to Kathmandu on this day.

Day 20: Departure

Lumba Sumba Pass Trek journey ends.
